Eric Clarke
CEO, Orion Advisor Solutions

Eric Clarke serves as chief executive officer for Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion), helping advisory professionals operationalize their vision for success by delivering cutting-edge financial technology and investment management solutions through the organization’s four subsidiaries, Orion Advisor Tech, Orion Portfolio Solutions, CLS Investments, and Constellation Trust Company. Prior to, Eric was the founding CEO of Orion Advisor Tech, which he continues to lead, and previously served as CIO for CLS Investments. As an industry-recognized thought leader and advocate for advisory professionals, Eric has written numerous articles that have appeared in Investment News and The Journal of Financial Planning, and has received numerous industry awards including ThinkAdvisors’ IA25 in 2012 and 2019, and Investment News’ Icon & Innovators Award in 2019.

 

Eric earned a BS in Accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah.  As an avid runner, Eric uses the solitude of his runs to think through business strategies and plan new scenarios to help advisors increase functional efficiencies and improve their businesses.

Daniel Applegarth
Chief Financial Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Daniel Applegarth is the chief financial officer of Orion Advisor Solutions and is responsible for the financial operations of Orion Advisor Tech, Orion Portfolio Solutions, and CLS Investments.  Prior to joining the company in 2006, Daniel worked as an auditor for Ernst and Young in Seattle, where he obtained his CPA license. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and later completed an MBA at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Kylee Beach
General Counsel and Secretary, Orion Advisor Solutions

Kylee Beach serves as General Counsel and Secretary for Orion Advisor Solutions where she oversees various legal matters affecting Orion and its affiliated companies, including contracts, intellectual property, and other corporate matters.  Since joining Orion in 2011, she has held numerous positions, including Chief Compliance Officer for Orion’s affiliate, CLS Investments, LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser.  Prior to joining Orion, Ms. Beach was a private practice attorney who represented numerous issuers before the SEC on issues including initial public stock offerings, registration of investment advisers, and ongoing reporting obligations.  Ms. Beach received her J.D., with high distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law, and earned a BA in Business Administration from Nebraska Wesleyan University with highest distinction.

Ryan Beach
Chief Operating Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Ryan Beach serves as Chief Operating Officer of Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion), overseeing the implementation and execution of business operations across the company. Ryan is dedicated to creating solutions for complex problems, and he advocates for a great experience across Orion for clients as well as employees.

Prior to joining Orion, Ryan served as an attorney for a law firm specializing in SEC matters. In 2011, he jumped at the opportunity to join Orion’s legal department, and the following year Ryan became President of CLS Investments. He has since held several leadership roles across Orion, including CEO of CLS, CEO of Constellation Trust Company, and President of Orion Portfolio Solutions. Ryan’s legal background has provided him with a unique perspective to tackle issues in the highly regulated financial industry.

Ryan is passionate about helping advisors guide their clients to achieve their long-term financial goals. He embraces the fiduciary business model and loves being part of a company that strives to give more to its clients than it takes.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a Juris Doctorate earned with distinction, as well as his Series 65 license. Outside of the office, he enjoys reading, exercising, and spending as much time as possible with his two children.

Chad Boyer
Chief Development Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Chad Boyer brings over 20 years of experience in the field of information technology and has an extensive background building software for the financial sector. Mr. Boyer originally joined CLS in July of 1999, where he helped architect a portfolio management system that later became the technology backbone for Orion Advisor Services ( a sister company of CLS ). Most recently, Mr. Boyer served as the President and Lead Application Architect for NEWA Enterprises. In this role, he helped various companies transform IT practices by maturing software development processes with agile methodologies. He also provided guidance to development teams on how to build sustainable application architectures by leveraging industry best practices. Mr. Boyer is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD), and holds a Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) for Secure Software Programming (GSSP.NET). Grateful for what he has learned from his vast network of IT professionals, he enjoys giving back to the software community by mentoring developers and leading work groups on various aspects of application architecture.

Brad Burgess
Chief Technology Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Brad Burgess serves as Orion Advisor Solution’s Chief Technology Officer. His primary responsibilities include product management, development, deployment and maintenance of the tools and technology provided by Orion.

Brad was formerly the CTO/Director of Software Development for CLS Investments. He joined Orion at the company’s inception, and he enjoys working for a fast-paced, innovative, technically aggressive firm. Brad embraces the difficult, challenging work that rewards hard work with a sense of accomplishment. Some of his biggest accomplishments at Orion include assembling an outstanding technical group and building a large library of superior software tools and services.

Brad holds multiple degrees including Management of Information Systems, Decision Science, Information System Quantitative Analysis, with minors in Math and Computer Science from The University of Nebraska.

As an active Crossfitter, Brad enjoys difficult workouts which let him clear his mind from his day to day work, allowing him to conceptualize new solutions to the ever-growing demands of our customer base.

Kyle Hiatt
Chief Revenue Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Kyle Hiatt serves as Chief Revenue Officer for Orion Advisor Solutions. He oversees the company’s Sales Team and works to build Orion’s relationships between custodians and technology vendors. Simply put, Kyle is focused on increasing the value that Orion delivers to customers.

Kyle started his career working for an RIA in 1997, and he later joined CLS Investments as a Sales & Service Manager in 2000. Since moving to Orion Technology Solutions in 2003, Kyle has been involved in all areas of the business, including overseeing operations, managing key accounts, and helping advisors conduct due diligence. For over two decade’s Kyle has helped advisors enjoy their business again by liberating them from back-office operations tasks.

Kyle holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance, from Creighton University and a Master of Business Administration, Finance, from Bellevue University.

Randy Lambert
Chief Operations Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Randy Lambert serves as Chief Operations Officer of Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion). He is responsible for the operational services delivered to clients. Randy has been with Orion from the beginning and has played a key role in the company’s tremendous growth. He has helped oversee the development of industry-changing technology and has driven the implementation of service solutions to ensure Orion’s staff is prepared to handle any situation.

Randy has known he wanted to work in the financial industry since his senior year of high school, when a financial planner spoke to his class. He was inspired to pursue a finance degree, and after graduating from college, he took a job at CLS Investments. A few years later, CLS’s then COO Eric Clarke founded Orion – Randy came on board – and the rest is history. Randy says Orion’s amazing team of people and its incredible advisors make coming to work worth it every day.

Randy holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance, from Creighton University, and he is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration from Regis University. Outside of the office, Randy enjoys spending time with his family, working outside, and coaching high school basketball.

Trent Mumma
Chief Product Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Trent Mumma serves as Chief Product Officer for Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion). In his role, Trent is responsible for overseeing Orion’s Product Management and Design teams.

Trent started with Orion in 2010 as the first member of the Trading team. Ever since then, he has made it his mission to solidify and enhance Orion’s platform. Trent is dedicated to ensuring Orion is tuned in to what advisors need in order to provide them with constant innovations and the tools they need to win.

Trent holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Sports Management. Outside of the office, Trent enjoys cooking, watching Husker Football, and having fun with his three kids.

Rusty Vanneman, CFA, CMT
Chief Investment Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Rusty Vanneman is responsible for leading Orion’s Portfolio Management Team and overseeing all investment operations at Orion, including investment philosophy, process, positioning, and performance. Mr. Vanneman is also responsible for internal and external communications regarding market environment and current investment strategies. He is part of the management team for several of Orion’s proprietary mutual funds. Mr. Vanneman joined Orion in September 2012 as Chief Investment Officer. Previously, he served as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Kobren Insight Management (KIM) in the greater Boston area. His 11-year tenure at KIM included a 5-year span during which the firm was owned by E*TRADE Financial and he served as the Senior Market Strategist for E*TRADE Capital. Prior to working at KIM, he was a Senior Analyst at Fidelity Management and Research (FMR Co) in Boston. He was also a Managing Analyst at Thomson Financial. Mr. Vanneman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Babson College where he graduated with high distinction. He has held the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation since 1994, and is a member of the CFA Institute. He has also been a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) since 1999, and is a member of the Market Technician’s Association (MTA). In addition, Mr. Vanneman authored the book “Higher Calling: A Guide to Helping Investors Achieve Their Goals.” He was named one of the Top 10 Portfolio Managers to Watch by Money Management Executive in 2017.

Kelly Waltrich
Chief Marketing Officer, Orion Advisor Solutions

Kelly Waltrich, Orion’s Chief Marketing Officer has over 15 years of marketing experience in the financial services industry, the last six specifically focused on financial advisor technology. Kelly currently leads a team responsible for the planning, development, execution, and monitoring of Orion’s marketing, communications, and creative initiatives.

 

Bill Wostoupal
Chief of Strategic Relationships, Orion Advisor Solutions

As Chief of Strategic Relationships for Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion), Bill Wostoupal and his team engage with Orion’s top relationships, which include broker dealers, large RIAs, custodians, strategists, 529 clients and other key partners that help our advisors win.

Bill first joined CLS Investments, an Orion company, in 1994. Since then, Bill has worked in a sales and sales management capacity, developing and supporting technology and institutional initiatives at Orion.

Bill holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Business, from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. In his spare time, Bill enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.

Mustapha Baassiri
Executive Vice President of Financial Planning Solutions, Orion Advisor Tech

Mustapha spent his career building and delivering financial software to top banks and hedge funds. Prior to launching Advizr, he worked at Misys Sophis. As a professional services manager there, he oversaw the deployment and integration of risk management software at several global financial institutions. Starting as an engineer in 2005, he worked at various financial institutions in Paris, London and New York, building what his clients had thought could only be an oxymoron: user-friendly enterprise software. Mustapha has a graduate degree in engineering and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Julie Lane
Vice President, Human Resources, Orion Advisor Solutions

Julie Lane serves as Vice President, Human Resources for Orion Advisor Solutions (Orion). She leads all hiring and HR efforts for Orion and its subsidiaries. She is also responsible for leading Orion’s Leadership Development/Engagement Team which focuses on providing a superior team member experience. Julie is motivated by the responsibility of creating the best possible environment for employees so that they can provide the best possible experience for advisors.

Julie joined Orion in 2017, bringing more than 20 years of experience in HR leadership roles. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Human Resources from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master of Business Administration from Bellevue University. Julie also holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification from the HR Certification Institute and a Senior Certified Professional certification from the Society for HR Management.

Outside of the office, Julie loves traveling and visiting lighthouses, which have always fascinated her. She has two rescue animals, a dog and a cat, which she says prove that dogs and cats can live in harmony.

Hussain Zaidi
President of Financial Planning Solutions, Orion Advisor Tech

Hussain Zaidi is a financial planning veteran with over 12 years of experience working with high net worth clients. He was recently a VP at Citigroup and part of a small team that focused on a high net worth, executive clientele. In 2008, he completed his Certified Financial Planning (CFP®) certification and in 2011 he earned his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School. Believe it or not, Hussain is obsessed with the practice of financial planning (at an unhealthy level). Other than work, Hussain loves to play tennis and spend all of his free time with his wife and daughter.

Jonathan R. Baum
Executive Chair of the Board

In 2013, Jonathan retired as Chairman and CEO of both The Dreyfus Corporation—a subsidiary of BNY Mellon—and Mellon Bank Securities Corporation. Having served as a C-suite executive for a number of financial institutions, including Scudder Investments and UBS PaineWebber, he brings the leadership and experience of a long and accomplished career to his role as Executive Chair of the Board. Jonathan holds a B.A. from Bucknell University.

Vernon Barback
Vice Chairman, Russell Investments

Vernon joined Russell Investments from Altß Partners, where he was a founding partner and has held senior or executive leadership positions with GlobeOp Financial Services, Citigroup Asset Management, and Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank. Vernon earned both his B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from Cambridge University.

M. Roy Burns
Managing Director, TA Associates

Roy helps lead TA’s investments in financial services markets, previously working in Equity Investments at Davidson Kempner Partners and High Yield and Leveraged Finance at Banc of America Securities. Roy holds a B.S. from Washington and Lee University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar.

Todd Clarke

Todd retired from Orion Advisor Solutions as Managing Director, following his roles as Sales Manager, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, President, and CEO of CLS Investments. Todd received a B.S. in business management from Brigham Young University.

Dean Cook
Board Member, Orion Advisor Solutions

Dean retired from Orion Portfolio Solutions as CEO in September of 2019. Before becoming CEO in 2010, Dean directed the firm’s national marketing and sales operations since 2005. Through his experience as a Registered Representative, Investment Advisor Representative and External Wholesaler, Dean has taken pride in adding unique insights to advisors as they build a profitable firm.

Todd Crockett
Managing Director and Co-Head of Services Group, TA Associates

Todd is co-head of the North America Services Group and focuses primarily on investments in financial and tech-enabled services companies, and serves on the Board of Directors of DiscoverOrg, Evanston Capital Management, Orion Advisor Solutions, Procare Software, and Russell Investments. Todd received a B.A. in politics from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Clara Jackson
Senior Vice President, TA Associates

Clara joined TA Associates in 2014 and is currently a Senior Vice President in the Services Group. She serves on the board of Orion Advisor Solutions, is a board observer of Russell Investments, and works closely with BluePay Processing, Inc. Clara graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.S. in economics from Vanderbilt University and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Jina Horton

As Vice President of Business Development, Jina Horton helps advisors navigate the tech options available to them and provides a consultative approach to understanding advisors’ needs. Jina started with Orion within the service and operations teams. She enjoyed having genuine conversations with advisors who were considering partnering with Orion, and her top priority was making sure we were the right fit for their growing firm. This background has driven Jina’s dedication to offering guidance for advisors and helping them discover new efficiencies.

Ashley Heinzman

Northwest Region

Ashley Heinzman is responsible for supporting advisors in Orion’s Northwest territory. She works with advisors during their initial review of Orion and coordinates the first steps for their due diligence process. Ashley also supports Orion’s V.P. of Business development by undertaking follow-up tasks related to advisors’ due diligence.

Paul Wick
VP, Business Development, Midwest Region
Midwest Region

In his role as VP of Business Development, Paul Wick delivers the breadth of Orion’s technology solutions to advisory firms across the Midwest. When meeting with RIAs, Paul is dedicated to taking a truly consultative approach and understanding the unique needs of advisors to provide the best solutions for their business. Before beginning his career at Orion, Paul helped advisors grow their businesses with technology solutions at TD Ameritrade and later at Gemini Alternative Funds. His professional background has given Paul a unique perspective on finding and fulfilling the technology needs of advisors.

Breten Williams
Business Development, Midwest Region
Midwest Region

Breten Williams works with prospective advisors throughout the Midwest to answer questions, host demos, and take care of various other requests. He also meets with current clients, regularly attends conferences to promote Orion, and helps to move the sales process forward.

 

Ryan Donovan
VP, Business Development
Northeast Region

Ryan Donovan joined Orion in 2014 to establish a local presence in the Northeast. Ryan is a New York native and self proclaimed gastronomist who enjoys golf, travel and relaxing at home with his wife and kids.

Preston Lambrecht

Northeast Region

In his Business Development role at Orion, Preston Lambrecht works with advisors in the northeastern United States to fully understand the benefits of Orion’s technology tools. Preston helps advisors be more successful in their day-to-day operations and in their interactions with clients.

George Svagera
VP, Business Development
Southwest Region

As Vice President of Business Development at Orion, George Svagera is responsible for connecting with financial advisors across the southwestern United States. George is dedicated to truly understanding the unique needs of advisors and what they’re trying to accomplish with their technology. He works every day to have a positive impact on advisory firms by helping them use Orion’s technology to improve efficiency and drive growth.

Tyler Vacek
Business Development
Southwest Region

In his Business Development role at Orion, Tyler Vacek works directly with financial advisors to promote the vast capabilities of Orion’s technology. He is responsible for moving opportunities through the business pipeline by demonstrating Orion’s tech tools to advisors and staying in frequent contact with prospective firms. Tyler is a big believer in working to understand each firms’ unique needs without wasting advisors’ valuable time.

Ben Frantz
VP, Business Developement
South Central Region

As Vice President of Business Development at Orion, Ben Frantz is responsible for partnering with prospective firms across the south-central United States.

Before beginning his current role, Ben worked on the service side at Orion as an account manager, then moved to internal sales. Ben’s background gives him a unique perspective that allows him build relationships with prospective firms. He’s dedicated to taking a consultative approach to the sales process, by listening to firms and fully understanding their needs.

Wes Wilkinson

South Central Region

In his Internal Sales/Business Development role at Orion, Wes Wilkinson facilitates conversations with advisors and helps to guide their due diligence process. He is focused on supporting advisors in Orion’s southeast territory. Wes believes in thoroughly listening to advisors needs and taking a consultative approach to helping them find the best solution.

Joel Hurst
VP, Business Development
Southeast Region

As Vice President of Business Development at Orion, Joel Hurst works directly with advisory firms across the southeastern United States. He is dedicated to taking a consultative approach with new and prospective advisors.  Joel began his career at Orion in 2004 as an account manager, and he later took on the position of Institutional Service Manager before starting his current position. During his many years at the company, Joel is responsible for bringing hundreds of new firms to Orion along with millions in new revenue.

Joe Badalucco
Business Development
Southeast Region

Joe Badalucco is responsible for many facets of Business Development in Orion’s Southeast territory. His primary focus is to speak with advisors and determine if Orion’s tech solutions are a good fit for their business, demonstrate Orion’s technology, and provide consultative answers throughout advisors’ due diligence process. He strives to help advisors achieve streamlined business practices through the added efficiency Orion can provide.

Josh Benson

Josh Benson helps financial advisors streamline their processes, and he works to increase internal efficiencies by leveraging Orion’s portfolio management solutions. He has a proven track record at Orion of working closely with advisors to provide consultations, training sessions, and service.

Ray Shirley

In his Business Development role, Ray Shirley works closely with firms that use Orion to understand how they can get the most out of our additional technology platforms such as Eclipse Trading, ASTRO, and Inform. He assists firms with unique client problems related to investment management and helps firms customize their approach to the needs of individual clients. Ray is passionate about working on cutting edge financial technology with firms that are dedicated to providing the best financial advice for their clients.

Sean Hollingshead

Sean Hollingshead leads a team that works with Orion firms to demonstrate the value of add-on products, including Eclipse Trading, ASTRO, and Inform. He believes the best method of sales is to take an honest approach with advisors. He is dedicated to keeping the interests of Orion and advisors in mind when putting together deals.

Phillip Colling

Since 2015, Phillip has been helping advisors utilize the Orion platform in the ways that best suit their unique needs. Phil enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, being active outdoors, and watching sports.

Todd Bertucci
SVP, Business Development
Enterprise Sales

As SVP of Enterprise Sales, Todd consults with some of the industry’s largest independent financial firms to help align them with the tools they need to grow their business and improve efficiency. His approach to the sales process is uncovering each firm’s unique needs and educating them on how the right solution can positively impact their business. Todd values Orion’s constant innovation to remain a top technology solution for advisors. He believes Orion sets itself apart with its culture and with people who truly care about what we do for the industry.
